For the second straight year the Muswellbrook Eagles celebrated an emphatic win on Old Boys Day.

A Liam Shepherd equaliser in the first break was followed by goals from Guiliume Perdrau, Douglas Thomson and Taylor Windle to secure the 4-1 victory over Hamilton while Shawn Honeysett proved to be the standout with the Muswellbrook RSL Club Players’ Player award.

“The atmosphere was great, especially when we started to build in the second half, play some good football and run away with the win,” Muswellbrook Eagles’ coach Hamish McTaggart told The Hunter River Times.

The Saturday side is currently sitting at the top of the table ahead of Fletcher FC, Cardiff City, Dudley Redhead and West Wallsend.

The Eagles will be aiming for their first minor premiership since 2019 with competitions cancelled in 2020 and 2021 due to covid-19.
