Juniors prepare for netball debut

BY ALEX TIGANI

Only two weeks remain until the Singleton Netball Association commences its shortened season for 2020.

For many, the return cannot come soon enough following the sport’s lengthy hiatus from Singleton’s Rose Point Park due to the coronavirus pandemic.

However, there are some players and coaches who are still polishing up on their tactics in the final days leading up to the opening round.

Enter junior coach Josephine Wensley.

“This is the first year that this team has been together, so it is exciting preparing them and getting them to play,” Wensley told The Hunter River Times.

The first-year mentor’s passion for the role is no different to any other coach in the region’s under-11 competition.

She wants to see her girls have fun, replicating the joy she displayed when representing Mt Druitt at representative level in years gone by.

“There’s probably only three players in this side who have played outside of school, so they are fairly new to the Saturday competition,” she concluded.

All junior and senior age groups will return on Saturday, July 18 with the season expected to end in late September.

MEANWHILE the Singleton Netball Association is looking for interested players to join their 12’s, 14’s, 15’s and 17’s representative teams.

Please complete and email the representative player application form on our website under the representative tab to singletonnetball@hotmail.com
