Muswellbrook Cats itching to play

The women from Weeraman Fields are ready to go for this winter.

The Muswellbrook Cats will have to wait a further eight days before commencing their AFL Women’s Diamond Plate campaign.

While Muswellbrook’s senior men travel to Lake Macquarie tomorrow afternoon (2pm start), their female counterparts will commence the season with a bye.

The Cats have been drawn to play alongside Singleton, Lake Macquarie, Gosford, Newcastle City, Wallsend-West Newcastle and The Entrance Bateau Bay.

That’s not to say the women from Weeraman didn’t receive a small taste of the onfield return last weekend.

A handful of Cats, including first year captain Samantha Paterson, combined forces with the Maitland Saints in Saturday’s trial match in Singleton.

“I thought this year would have definitely been a step forward for us and it still can be now that we’re back,” Paterson told The Hunter River Times in a previous interview.

MEANWHILE the Saints will be playing in the top tier of the AFL Hunter Central Coast women’s competition alongside Cardiff, Warners Bay, Killarney Vale, Terrigal Avoca, Nelson Bay /Port Stephens, Wyong Lakes and Newcastle City.

Maitland will commence their season against Cardiff at Pasterfield across all three grades tomorrow.
