Brigid’s reign opens new opportunity

BY DI SNEDDON

Brigid Thomas maybe the only Singleton Showgirl who will hold the title for two consecutive years after winning the title last year.

While it has been disappointing not to have had the opportunity to do all she had hoped, she says the extended time will allow her and the showgirl organisers to re-group for a bigger and stronger year in 2021.

Being crowned Singleton Showgirl 2019 was a thrill for Brigid Thomas but what she thought would be an extremely busy year with the title, turned into anything but.

She is grateful she had the opportunity to take part in the zone weekend event in Glenn Innis but her community involvement came to a crushing halt with covid.

She says while she didn’t place at zone, she was really looking forward to being involved in the Royal Easter Show in Sydney and to look at it from a new, showgirl perspective.  She was also looking forward to showcasing the Showgirl title at local community events.

“I haven’t really had the opportunity to do very much at all but what I will say is that the additional year will allow me more time to work on next year’s process,” Brigid said.

She added that her showgirl experience made her more self-aware of how she portrays herself, how she interacts with others, delegates and officiations.  The zone final also gave her more public speaking confidence which is a skill she will put to good use working in the beef industry and eventually teaching.

She says she can’t thank the show committee enough for the work and effort they put into presenting the annual event which brings so much pleasure to the community.

She is looking forward to the opportunity to guide other showgirls, to teach them the skills she has learnt and most importantly, to watch them overcome their fears and to guide them through the process.

So look out for Brigid’s input into Singleton Show 2021 which, from all accounts, will be a huge community celebration with a showgirl component ready to raise the bar.
