Take a seat at the shops

There is a new seat outside Singleton’s Aldi store and it comes directly as a result of requests from the community.

Since the store was opened, those relying on public transport have had to stand making it a challenge for older people.

After numerous requests Singleton Councils Access Audit sub-committee looked at the issue and quickly came to the conclusion that a seat is exactly what was in order.

While there was a short delay in the delivery of the seat, which is the same design as other street furniture in John Street, due to covid, its recent installation has been much appreciated by the community.

Vicki Brereton, Council’s Director Organisation and Community Capacity said the sub-committee recognised many older residents used the area in front of the building when waiting for transport, and found it difficult to stand.

“This is a great demonstration of Council’s Access Audit sub-committee and Council’s outdoor crews working together to recognise a need in the community, and delivering a tangible solution,” she said.

“The seat is already being well utilised by people of all ages and abilities when waiting for the bus or other means of community transport.

“It’s really important that people let us know when they recognise a need like this one so that we can work towards making life a little easier for our residents, and the Access Audit sub-committee has been a great avenue for that.”

So Vicki’s message is clear, if you see a need put it in writing to Council and hopefully a resolution can be found.
