A Beautiful Job for De-anne

When you think about Muswellbrook PCYC, you think about De-anne Douglas.

As the club celebrates 30 years in the community, The Hunter River Times acknowledges the efforts of manager De-anne Douglas as our Beautiful Person for edition 10.

“I am the first civilian manager at Muswellbrook so when the initiative was put in close to 16 years ago to put civilian managers,” De-anne said of the move to help the police get back out working with the youth in the community.

“I am actually one of the original managers that was put in because of that.

“I love the fact that PCYC gives me the ability to do what I really want to do and that’s change lives.

“It’s to be able to work with the community and look at what is needed and be able to provide that, and there are not many places that you can go to work that gives you that opportunity and I am just grateful to be honest.”

De-anne is not talking with nostalgia just because of getting to meet one of the club founders David Sorensen and learn more of it’s history.

“I finish up on the 31st of January and to be honest it was the toughest decision I have ever made,” she said about her resignation earlier this month.

“I have been studying to become a counselor so obviously being here and being able to work with young people in the community has made me realise that that is something I want to do.

“I am going to take up a role that will let me use my counselling skills as I study.

“I was a really tough decision but I am still as passionate about PCYC as I ever was.”
