Cards with a Strong Message

BY DI SNEDDON

Red Cross’ focus points for 2020 included forming links with the local Aboriginal community.

Singleton branch president Susan Ginns did just that coming up with an innovative idea that opened up new fund-raising opportunities.

After creating some greeting cards based on artwork by local members, Susan expanded the idea and worked with the Ka-Wul Aboriginal Cultural Centre at Singleton High School to create 10 new card designs featuring artwork by local students.

The back of the card features a brief biography of the artist and their inspiration for the design with messaging.

“Large-scale fund raising events for Red Cross have been stopped, like most social events, due to covid, so we have been looking at other initiatives and I have been delighted by the designs the students created and thank teacher Jo Vinson for her help in this project,” Mrs Ginns said.

The cards are available through the local branch by calling 0456822453 or they will be available for purchase at Gowrie Street Mall on the following three Thursdays when the group will be selling raffle tickets.

The branch will also attend the next market day at Townhead Park on November 8.
