Rotary Club of Scone supporting local

The Rotary Club of Scone is gearing up for another year of the Christmas Stocking raffle, but like many things this year it is being done with a twist.

“In the past we walk the streets and ask for donations from all the business houses, because of the fires, drought and covid we decided that we would try and get some sponsorship and Rotary would match whatever we got in sponsorship and spend whatever we got in Scone,” secretary Lindy Hunt said.

“MACHEnergy came to the party with a lot of money, which was great and we matched that and the last week a couple of us have been walking the streets of Scone spending that money in the small businesses.

“They have been so generous, some of them have given us a discount on what we have purchased, some of them have matched what we have purchased, some have said no don’t buy anything – have this.

“It’s been really heartening to see how generous the people of Scone are to know that their generosity will benefit lots of people.”

For 45 years the annual raffle has helped fundraise for things Rotary do to put back into the community like presentation day awards for students, youth exchange, and leadership programs.

Ms Hunt said they are glad to be able to do their bit in supporting local businesses by purchasing items in 2020 and hopes that the community will do the same.

The same familiar faces will be set up in the main street of Scone selling digital entries into the draw, with their laptop set up to entre names for each sale, online sales will also be available this year.
