Tracey scrapes home for third club title

After a series of near misses and runner up titles, Joshua Tracey could not help but smile when securing back-to-back Branxton Golf Club A-Grade championship titles last month.

The 24-year-old now joins the club’s exclusive three-time winners’ list which is topped by club legend Mark Hales.

Yet he revealed he was more relieved to claim the title this time around.

“This title was definitely harder because of my work schedule and how little I’ve been playing,” Tracey told The Hunter River Times.

“It was very evident the last two rounds how rusty I was.”

Tracey, who had previously won in 2017 and 2021, completed a score of 69, 71, 75, 75 – 290 to defeat runner up Victor Matt 71, 70, 76, 75 – 292.

Cameron Johanson finished third with a score of 77, 72, 76, 70 – 295.

“I hit it really well the first 2 rounds but really struggled to make any putts,” he continued. “The last two rounds I really just couldn’t find my game at all, I was two behind with four to play from a former club champion in victor Matt but finished well enough to get away with the win by two.”
