Nicky honoured by recent award

Scone Triathlon Club’s Nicky Western admits her Triathlon NSW award was really special.
As reported in our most recent edition,Western was announced as the governing body’s Pathway Coach of the Year on Monday, December 12 in recognition of her role as the head coach at the Hunter Academy of Sport.
She is also a member of the Triathlon NSW board.
“It was a new award that they have come out with so to win it in the inaugural year is very exciting,” Western told The Hunter River Times.
“To go out there and meet all the high-performance Triathlon Australia coaches and other board members was really special.”
She was joined at the Singleton Triathlon Club’s latest event on Sunday by two of her pupils in Grady Platt and Lachlan Jones.
“The triathlon program at Hunter Academy is going really,” she revealed.
“We have got some really strong athletes and it has built over the past seven years so we have a really strong pathway now.”
Some of her pupils will now take part in the Australian Junior Sprint Triathlon Championships to be held in Port Adelaide from April 15-16 while the Hunter Academy is also predicted to fair well at the Academy Games around the same time.
“We are obviously aiming for the Commonwealth Games in Regional Victoria and even Brisbane Olympic Games after that,” Western concluded.
