Roosters return to training

Footy is back.

The Singleton Roosters returned to training this week ahead of the 2023 AFL Hunter Central Coast season.

The club will be aiming to produce a men’s reserve grade side to play in the Shield competition in addition to their existing senior men side, coached by returning mentor Tim Hare, and successful women’s line-up led by 2020 premiership coach Nadene McBride.

Club stalwarts Mitchell Gaffney and Samuel Howard reach the line.

“Both men’s and women’s sides showed plenty of numbers before Christmas which was a huge effort and both coaches are wanting to push for a big year in 2023,” Singleton Roosters president Dylan Hixon explained.

The incoming president has confirmed the addition of Scott O’Bryan as junior president with junior coaches and training schedule to be released in the coming weeks.

The club will also continue its tradition of playing a pre-season match against Muswellbrook for the Nathan Duncan Shield.

Luke Draper endured the Singleton heat throughout the fitness drills.

Hixon has also been working hard on his pre-season routine ahead of his next playing milestone this season.

“I set a pretty big goal for myself after last season to lose some covid weight and work on my fitness,” he concluded.

“With wanting to push myself further than I could of in past years as of this week I have lost 15kg and still going and am pushing myself harder every day and every session.”

Senior president Dylan Hixon kicks to a leading forward.

New players are welcome on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 6pm at Rose Point Park.
