End of an Era for D & L Chainsaws

One of the real rewards of being in business is the relationships you make over time and that is the one thing Kevin and Judy Penton say they will miss the most when they close the doors of their beloved D & L Chainsaws.

Kevin’s parents, Don and Lola Penton, started the Singleton business back in 1987 but when GST was introduced in 2000, Don wanted no part of it and retired with Kevin and Judy buying the business.

Both knew what they were in for as they were already working for Don and Lola and the one thing they took from this experienced business couple was the importance of customer service.

“That’s what it is about, it is servicing customers and in some cases we are serving third generations, families who have become friends,” Judy said.

They issued a letter to their customers at the end of January saying they would be closing their doors on March 31 with sincere sadness and some regret.

“We are retiring, it’s time,” said Kevin adding that the past three years, with drought, fires, pandemics and floods had been a stressful time to try and run a business.

Judy added that they intend  to spend the first six months of their retirement chilling back for the first time in their lives.

Next year they hope to do some travelling and with five grandchildren aged from 10 weeks to 15 years, they have plenty of good family times to look forward to.

“It has been an honour and a privilege to have served the community for as long as we have and we thank you all,” Judy said.
