Roosterettes dominate the Dockers

BY ALEX TIGANI

The Singleton Roosterettes bounced back from a season-opening defeat to celebrate a whopping 11.16 (82) to 1.1 (7) win over Lake Macquarie.

It marked the first time the Roosterettes had played the Dockers at Women’s Cup level as the visitors registered the final nine goals of the clash.

Tori Cowburn finished with four goals while teenage talents Faith Radmacher, Molly Thomas and Ella McLeod continued to impress in their transition to women’s footy.

Ball winner Lynan Scott also contributed with a goal in her first appearance of the season.

“It really was a team performance as every member played their role,” Singleton coach Nadene McBride told The Hunter River Times.

The last time these two sides met was in October 2020 when the Singleton Roosterettes celebrated a 13-point grand final win in the second tier.

The following year saw Lake Macquarie move up to Women’s Cup level while Singleton remained in the Plate competition before trading places in 2022, allowing the Dockers to celebrate their first Women’s Plate premiership.

The Roosterettes will now enjoy the bye this weekend before taking on fellow premiership contenders Cardiff (away) and Killarney Vale (home).

MEANWHILE the Singleton Youth Girls 17 line-up will commence their season on Sunday, April 29.
