The Secondary School’s Art Prize returns to the region for another year.

The best entries will be displayed at the Scone Arts and Crafts Hall throughout the duration of the festival.

A first prize of $300 is up for grabs while the runner up will also receive $125. Three further highly commended awards will also be offered to impressive artworks. These prizes will be presented at the official opening ceremony at the hall at 6pm on Friday, May 5.

“The competition is open to all secondary students in the Upper Hunter Shire,” organiser Phil McGuirk explained.

“We have an opportunity for them to win lots of money but also to display their talents as artists.”

Entries can be submitted to Scone High School, Scone Grammar School, St Joseph’s Aberdeen or Merriwa Central on Wednesday, April 27.

Entry size is a maximum of one square metre and can be on canvas or on a mount or a matt board.

“If you approach your art department you’ll find there are entry forms there,” he concluded.

“Lots of money to win but it is good fun and you could show us what your talents are.”

Last year’s competitions had 15 entries with quality winners. This year’s is bigger and better than ever.

An entry fee of $10 is to be paid at the student’s school.
