Where were you on Saturday, April 22?

If you ask Singleton Rooster Oliver Moody, he will tell you that he lived out a lifelong dream when running out with his younger Billy in their first senior match together.

The Roosters, who finished bottom of the table in the Men’s Cup last year with a 1-12 record, slotted two early goals against the favourite Killarney Vale to silence the Bombers supporters scattered across the Adelaide Street Oval.

However, it would be the home side who would prevail with a 22.14 (146) to 5.6 (36) victory.

“Unfortunately, we couldn’t get a win but for his first ever first grade game Bill played really well,” Oliver told The Hunter River Times.

“He didn’t look out of place so he’ll have plenty more chances and games going forward with me.”

All eyes will be on the Roosters when they play host to The Entrance Bateau Bay at Rose Point Park this Saturday.

The Roosters sit 0-3 after playing last year’s top three sides while the Blues, who were promoted from the Plate competition in 2023, will bring back former Collingwood rookie Scott Reed to build on their 1-2 record.

Though Oliver will be sidelined for the next four weeks with a hamstring injury, he has the upmost faith in his younger brother and their remaining teammates to get the job done.

“A win will be huge for the boys,” Oliver continued.

“We have basically had the hardest three games to start the season, maybe bar one side and still missing a few boys so that’s been tough.

“But we’ve shown some good signs and I think the next few games are ours to win if we get the little things right and I think getting the first win will get the monkey off the back and give us a steppingstone to start stringing some wins together.”
