SHARE THE STORY:

Muswellbrook Juniors Travis, Jaxon, Justus, Mack and Mikayla had a great time at the Singleton Open.

Some great results to come out of the Singleton Open with the Juniors showing great determination and focus taking out two of the six divisions on offer. Justus Matheson was in giant killing mode to take out the B Grade while Travis Batcheldor kept his nerve to win all his matches in the Mixed Grade. Along with Jaxon, Mack and Mikayla Matheson all the juniors never gave up and impressed all the seniors on the day with their enthusiasm and good sportsmanship. Congratulations to Scott McCarthy as well being runner-up in the A Grade taking Singleton’s Sam Levick to four sets in a crowd pleasing final. A good turnout of 41 players had a fast and furious day on the courts thanks to Tournament Director Zoe Collins keeping the games flowing with the crowd entertained with quality matches from the Open Division all the way down to the Mixed Division. Can’t wait for next year.

Saturday Social Hit

With Singleton in full swing around 6 to 7 players enjoyed plenty of time on and off the courts with lots of running and chatting. It was a great chance to prepare for the remaining two weeks of competition before the semis kick off with new players always welcome to come down for a hit every Saturday from 2pm to 4pm.

Sunday Morning Juniors

Mother’s Day saw just the two juniors rock up but were given plenty of tasks and activities to get through and Max and Jesse were determined to accept the challenge. This Sunday might be equally as quiet with Round 3 of the Hunter Junior Circuit taking place at Singleton but any juniors keen to have a run at Muswellbrook will be well looked after by coach Scott “taskmaster” McCarthy.

Monday Night Round 13

Railway Hotel were too strong for Royal Hotel by three rubbers to one after Mitchell “stormy weather” Gylberde rained on Shane “holes in my umbrella” Davis’s parade cruising the first set 15-4 before Shane found his swing but still narrowly missed out 15-13, 17-15 in a tense match. Edward Higgens Parkinson have an unbeatable 12 points to 5 lead over McGrath with a match to play with Josh “X-Files” Oldham grabbing two vital games in his five-set loss to Andrew “I want to believe” Reynolds. Double Picc overcame Muswellbrook Steel Supplies after some hard-fought matches throughout the evening.

Tuesday Night Round 12

Whiteman’s Welding were too strong for Gamma Services by three rubbers to one after Adrian “no more” Barwick crawled over the line against Jaxon “these shoes were made for running” Matheson in an entertaining four sets. Curtis Gant Betts took the points against Muswellbrook Workers Club by three rubbers to one with the resurgence of Bruce “nobody moves” Webber getting the drop (shots) on Gavin “hands in the air” Matheson in a crowd pleasing three sets. Hunter Medical Practice have an unbeatable three sets to zero lead over Autopro with Caitie “like riding a bike” Wallington back from a break to defeat Natalie “puncture repair” Wear in a back and forward four sets.

Bye Team this week was Muswellbrook RSL Club.

Match of the round and although it only lasted three sets the battles in each set was long and hard with Whitemans Welding’s Graeme “I think I’m being followed” Nebauer having to focus with every shot to counter Jesse “beep beep!” Badior’s every return. Both players went point for point, rally for rally before Graeme emerged the victor 15-12, 18-16, 19-17 in a cracking match.

See you on the courts
