Aberdeen Tiger Daniel Hoogerwerf hopes to commence his club’s centenary season with a Scanlon Shield victory at McKinnon Field.

A large crowd is expected to gather at Aberdeen’s McKinnon Field this Saturday for the Group 21 region’s Scanlon Shield competition.

The tournament was cancelled in 2019 and 2020 (due to a washout and covid-19) and postponed from last week due to recent rainfall.

The Aberdeen Tigers will also seize the opportunity of opening their centenary season by unveiling a handful of recruits.

“I am not going to be around for the next 100 (years) so it is special for everyone that is going to be a part of it,” Aberdeen Tigers first grade coach Daniel Hoogerwerf explained. “It would be icing on the cake to win a comp in your 100th year of the competition.”

Macquarie Scorpions trio Matt Hay, Kyle Smith (centres), Adam Swadling (front rower) and Ourimbah Wyoming Magpies half back Josh Moffitt will bolster the club’s line-up in 2021. The Tigers will then travel to Muswellbrook on Saturday, May 1 to take on the Rams in the season opening Group 21 clash.
