The action may have subsided at Wimbledon but here at Muswellbrook it’s just beginning.
The Club having finished a “Record Breaking” 14-month long men’s competition. The pandemic has played havoc with everyone’s lives, and tennis hasn’t been immune.
A new men’s competition is now underway and the players are ready and rearing to go. The last comp was taken out by the “House of Windsor” and in right royal fashion the presentation evening was well attended at the “Royal Hotel”.
The winning captain Wiggy Terante was at his most humble best in thanking his teammates. Wiggy is one of the smoothest players on the court to watch and can generate power off his drives at will.
His Number two player Rueben O’Halloran was on song with his service game right through the finals, firing canon-ball first serves down at sometimes unplayable pace.
Rob Snewin as always was most comfortable at the net and finishes most of his points with a crisp and precise Volley.
It was a well-rounded team, with experience and balance the essence of Richard Frenches game in the number 4 position, and a young gun in Joey O’Brien playing with a never say die attitude.
“The House of Windsor” played the perfect finals and showed their class both on and off the court the entire competition.
Their captain led the way with his racket doing the talking.
Amazingly he finished the competition with a strike rate of 4.5, one of the highest ever according to officials.
The club committee will be keen to showcase it’s new Court, which they replaced earlier in the year.
The committee was proactive in gaining support from “MachEnergy Australia” and their generous donation went a long way to providing the funds to make this new court a reality.
A grand from the NSW State government kick started the project and the Muswellbrook Shire chipped in as well.
This gives the club back full capacity of six competition standard courts.
Junior coaching also kicked off last Wednesday with a full group of children polishing up their skills.
It was great to see the kids all back keen as mustard and chirping at the bit. Some have been on Tennis camps in the holidays, and their tennis has well improved.
Thanks to our volunteer coaches in Eric Churcher, Sandra Watts, Kieran Scott and Tony McTaggart who run the kids through their paces every Wednesday afternoon.
