Busy Easter for Upper Hunter Emergency Services

A man has died after a crash in the state’s north overnight.

About 9:15pm on Sunday 5 April 2026, emergency services were called to Cullingral Road, Merriwa (approximately 70km north west of Muswellbrook), following reports of a crash.

On arrival, officers attached to Hunter Valley Police District located a single vehicle which had left the road, before crashing into an embankment.

NSW Ambulance paramedics attempted to treat a man – however; he died at the scene. He is yet to be formally identified.

Officers have commenced investigations into the circumstances of the crash.

A report will be prepared for the information of the Coroner.

MEANWHILE at around 8:15pm on Saturday 4 April, a Westpac Rescue Helicopter was tasked by NSW Ambulance to a motor vehicle accident near Scone, in the Hunter Valley.

Four patients were assessed and treated by NSW Ambulance paramedics for multiple injuries after their vehicle had rolled.

A teenage female suffering head and back injuries was transported by road to the Scone Airfield to meet the helicopter’s critical care medical team before being airlifted to the John Hunter Hospital in a serious condition.

The other 3 patients involved were all transported by road to John Hunter Hospital.
