Muswellbrook Shire Council have had enough of circular talks about the region’s future and last week launched a campaign with the objective of putting ideas into action.
Muswellbrook Powering the Future Economy is a campaign with practical outcomes, using the strength of existing relationships within all levels of government and key industrial proponents who all want to make sure the Muswellbrook region has a voice.
“The story that has played out in the media is that mining is declining and Muswellbrook will lose all of these jobs, both of these things of course are true,” Jeff Drayton, Muswellbrook Shire mayor, said at the local launch on Tuesday.
“But the other side of the story is that we have an opportunity to use our industrious heritage, availability of land and our existing infrastructure to position ourselves for the future.
“Muswellbrook has all the ingredients to support existing industry, but we also have the knowhow to turn new ideas, technologies and innovation into reality.
“We’re preparing our existing businesses for new opportunities and preparing the next generations for the jobs of the future.”
The New South Wales Premier and all but two of his ministers attended a launch of the Muswellbrook Powering the Future Economy launch in Sydney last week, with Cr Drayton sharing the concept was very well received.
Tuesday night’s function was also well attended by local business and industry representatives who were eager to hear about Muswellbrook shire Councils proactive approach to the next chapter.
