Bouncing off the back of a successful events in 2023 and 24, Singleton PCYC is once again hosting its Pit Express Amateur Boxing Night on February 21 at Singleton Civic Centre.
It is one of the club’s major fundraising events but doubles up as an opportunity for members involved in its boxing program to competitively get in the ring.
Three club members, Ethan Upward, Ethan Buttifant and Josh Hammond are taking no prisoners in their preparation for the event, turning up early for training and leaving late.
Entries remain open and an anticipated 20 fights will be on the night’s fight card.
Ranging from 45kg lightweight division through to the over 90kg heavy weights, the event attracts some of the big names in the amateur scene and the Singleton trio are looking forward to seeing who signs up.
Club coach Christian Thomas refused to forecast how the locals would go and said much would depend on their weights heading into the ring.
Asked what makes a competitive boxer and Christian said it all comes down to discipline and stamina, especially stamina.
“You could have the most skilled fighter in the world walk into the ring but if they haven’t got the stamina to last three two-minute rounds, they won’t get anywhere,” Christian said.
“It is not about punching, it is about discipline,” he said.
While these sorts of fight nights are common in metropolitan areas, it is rare to see these events hosted in regional areas so sign-ups are traditionally strong.
The event is not limited to PCYC members and will attract some of the top amateur boxers from throughout New South Wales.
The event is at Singleton Civic Centre, February 21, doors open at 5pm with the first fight at 5:30pm. Tickets are available from the club now with some possibly available on the night at the door.
A select number of corporate tables of six people sitting ringside are now selling for $1200 with the broader seating filling the auditorium with 350 people capacity. Enquiries can be made by calling the club on 6572 1653.
There will be food van selling steak sandwiches and the event is licenced.
