Athletes Shine in State Championships
Seven athletes from Singleton Track and Field travelled to Sydney last weekend to compete at the Little Athletics NSW Championships.
Coach and president of Singleton Track and Field Hiliary Kennedy was ecstatic with the results commenting that all achieved personal bests in their individual events which is more than anyone could ask for.
Standout was Ethan Williams who took gold in the U17s 300m hurdles with a significant personal best time of 37.87 seconds.
He went on to achieve a silver medal in the 110m hurdles with an equally stunning time of 14 seconds.
Ruby Thorley finished sixth in the U9 discus with a throw of 20.04m and ninth in the high jump with a height of 1.05m.
Ella Northey finished 10th in the U17 300m hurdles with a time of 49.29 seconds.
Josh Speechly was 10th in the U14 400m with a personal best time of 56.20 seconds and 12th in the U14 triple jump with another personal best distance of 10.63m.
Ryan Penton was 13th in the U14 90m hurdles with a personal best time of 15.74 seconds.
Jake Pratt made his first appearance at the State competition and finished 14th in the U12 100m in a fiercely contested race with a time of 13.95 seconds.
Aberdeen’s Ruby Brochtrup was third in the long jump with a 23cm improvement on her previous personal best.
Carter Webb won the U9 high jump after clearing the 1.22m height which according to Hiliary is about as tall as he is.
Coleby Dunston finished seventh in the 15-17 multiclass shot put with a throw of 2.59m, sixth in the long jump with a distance of 82cm, ninth in the 100m with a time of 40.47 seconds and 10th in the multiclass discus with a throw of 6.18m.
Seren Hall also qualified for state and after competing at the NSW Junior Championships earlier in March, and qualified for Nationals after gaining a gold in the long jump and silver in the 100m at this competition.
Unfortunately Seren suffered a major injury that will see unable to compete at Nationals but Singleton Track & Field Club are excited to see what this talent athlete will achieve in 2025.
Ethan will now go on to compete at the Nationals in Adelaide next month.
“I really want to congratulate all the athletes, our club is well known for our good sportsmanship and this was so evident at the weekend,”Hilary said.
“There were around 2000 athletes at State and it can be quite overwhelming, the pond of athletes gets very big and very competitive but our members did very well and I am very proud of them all,” she said.
