The Nasho’s Memorial in Muswellbrook has received a facelift thanks to the ARTC.

With the memorial on Aberdeen Street backing onto the rail lines, the neighbours are always more than happy to help out.

“The ARTC have a very special relationship with our Nasho’s and we reached out and asked if there’s anything that we can do to assist in this space that’s important to them for their memorial area,” ARTC Works coordinator Nene Kennedy said.

“They were looking to do some work, they wanted these rocks removed over here, so we assisted in that and I decided to try and pretty up the area a little bit on the shoulder of the rail corridor and just try and make the place a little bit more special for them.”

ARTC staff have put in the hard yakka that the Nasho’s no longer can, removing stones from around the site, planting some new trees and installing a decretive sign.

Upper Hunter National Serviceman’s Association vice president Ray Cannon said it was about making the area safe for the elderly visitors to the memorial.

“I think it’s a wonderful job that they’ve done and we’re very pleased with it and be part of the ARTC family, we’re very pleased,” he said.

“We have a service every February and I think the last three years or so the ARTC has come and laid wreaths with us.”
