Singleton’s Ryan Gilroy has confirmed he will be making his Dunlop Super3 series debut when competing at the Newcastle 500 next month.

Gilroy has already forged a successful career having won Bathurst 6 Hour in April 2021 and a string of podium positions in the Toyota 86 and V8 Superute series.

After two years with Sieders Racing, Gilroy will now compete for the Aim Racing team.

“It’s my first big step in my pathway to the main game in Supercars racing and more exciting than ever before to get the year going,” Gilroy told The Hunter River Times.

“Around early November we were having discussions with different teams in different categories, but Super3 was the most prominent conversation.

“The chance to compete at my home race in a V8 supercar may be my once in a lifetime chance so I knew I had to make it happen.”

The announcement comes only one month after he placed second in Race 1 and 2 of the Bathurst 1000 before finishing fourth in Race 3 in wet and dangerous conditions.

He admitted that weekend pushed him to the limit more than ever before.

“To be able to fight for the win on all three days we raced was amazing and to have a fast car in the wet and dry and race some of the best was the point of saying ‘I can do this’,” he added.

“The after-effects of the weekend were the most surprising thing almost going from a nobody to everyone wanting to know who you are.”

Over the next 32 days he will be travelling back and forth from Victoria to be with his team and testing program.

His training schedule will consume five to six days of his week with three to four days on the simulator for a few hours at a time.

Did we mention he is also working two jobs to keep his dreams alive?

“My whole family, especially my mum, have stuck behind me the whole way,” he concluded.

“I also want to thank my incredible sponsors that continue to support me, and I’d love to find more sponsors for me to keep continuing on my pathway.
