The Greta Branxton Colts are rallying behind one of their bravest players.

The family of club junior Zane Slomka has received the news that no family wants to hear.

“Their energetic 8-year-old boy, Zane has been diagnosed with a rare form of brain cancer,” Greta Branxton Colts reserve grade coach John Hamson explained.

“Jessie and MJ have placed everything on hold to spend as much quality time with Zane and his two older siblings, Amelia and Jayden to create as many special memories to treasure forever.”

Last week the club started a GoFundMe page for Zane and his family to try and help where they can.

The page received $5000 in donations within the opening 48 hours before reaching the $10,000 mark this week.

The club has also been collecting memorabilia and donations to auction at a later stage to help raise further funds.

“Our thoughts and prayers are with the Slomka family,” Hamson added.

“Zane has played junior footy for the Colts for a few years now and his coaches and team mates alike absolutely adore him.

“With the help of our Colts and wider community, we are coming together to ensure the Slomka family have nothing to worry about other than being together.

“Our aim is to raise funds to alleviate the financial burden placed on the family during this difficult time.”
